Installed capacity

At the end of 2022, a total installed capacity of around 65,306 MW was available across the 50Hertz control area. Of this installed capacity, almost 41, MW was generated from renewable sources, while around 23,320 MW was generated by conventional power plants.

This page contains a breakdown of the total installed capacity into different energy sources. Details relating to wind and solar power, which represent the largest share of the installed capacity occupied by renewables, can be found on the pages covering wind power and photovoltaics.

* In the 2022 reporting year, the source used for the installed capacity of renewable energy sources was changed to the gross installed capacity from the Core Energy Market Data Register (MaStR). The Core Energy Market Data Register is maintained by the German Federal Network Agency and is the central data source for master data relating to all plant operators and installations on the basis of Sections 111e and 111f of the German Energy Industry Act and the German Ordinance on the Registration of Energy Industry Data (MaStRV). The increase in installed capacity in 2022 cannot therefore be seen here due to the use of different data sources. The increase in the installed capacity of wind turbines and photovoltaic plants in2022 as per MaStR can be seen on pages 11 and 12.
