Wind power

Wind power in Germany is leading the way in the field of renewable electricity generation. According to the master market-related data register (Markstammdatenregister),  which is published by the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA), the installed capacity of all wind turbines in Germany amounted to more than 58,132 megawatts (MW) at the end of 2022. The on- and offshore wind turbines located across the 50Hertz grid area accounted for about a third of this.

20,414 MW of the installed onshore wind power capacity and 1,093 of the installed offshore wind power capacity is located in the 50Hertz grid area. These wind farms providing this capacity supply their output to the medium- and high-voltage grids managed by the regional distribution system operators and to the extra-high-voltage grid which is managed by transmission system operator 50Hertz.
