Hybrid offshore interconnector - white paper Elia Group
Elia Group activity report 2020
How it works: overhead lines
System security. At the Control Center, employees monitor and control the 50Hertz transmission grid around the clock.
Maintenance. A technician performing maintenance at one of the 74 50Hertz substations and switching stations.
Inspection. 50Hertz employees conducting an inspection on an offshore platform in the baltic sea. From there, 50Hertz transports offshore windpower to the mainland.
Offshore. 50Hertz employee on the helipad of the offshore platform Arkona.
Moving up. Secured by a safety rope, a 50Hertz employee enters an offshore platform.
Safety First. Specially trained and secured, a 50Hertz employee climbs one of the up to 80 meters high overhead line pylons. There are more than 13,000 pylons in the 50Hertz grid area.
Arkona. The name of the offshore platform on the helipad is visible from high above.
Monitoring. Binoculars are helpful for technicians during substation inspections. 50Hertz operates 74 substations and switching stations.
Combined Grid Solution. Inside view of the converter hall in Bentwisch near Rostock. The converter is the heart of the interconnector "Combined Grid Solution" to Denmark, which integrades grid connections of offshore wind farms for the first time.
Safety First. Rescuers at sea and in the air practice special rescue situations. 50Hertz and various wind farm operators jointly maintain a rescue helicopter located on the island of Rügen.
Exchange. Conversation during a tour in one of the 50Hertz substations and switching stations.
Inspection. With an optical device, a technician checks necessary distances in a substation.
Maintenance. A 50Hertz technician is checking a switching gear valve at an offshore platform in the baltic sea.
Flying. Helicopters are regularly used in the 50Hertz grid area, for example, performing cable pulling works in the north of Brandenburg.
