50Hertz publishes the activated reserve power as quarter-hourly averages, categorised in secondary control reserve (SCR = SRL = aFRR – automatic frequency restoration reserves) and tertiary control reserve (TCR = MRL = mFRR – manual frequency restoration reserves).
While secondary control reserve is automatically activated and used continuously, tertiary control reserve is activated manually in the ¼ h time resolution of schedules to support or even substitute secondary control reserve.
Secondary control reserve and tertiary control reserve are generally activated based on a common German Merit Order List (MOL). As a result there is a continuous exchange of secondary control reserve and tertiary control reserve activated within the German control areas. Furthermore there is cooperation with neighbouring countries to reduce counter activation of reserve as well as for activation based on a common MOL. The time series of applied secondary control reserve and tertiary control reserve published here correspond with the secondary control reserve or tertiary control reserve activated in the 50Hertz control area. Additional information regarding the activation of control reserve as well as regarding deviations from the common German MOL are published on www.regelleistung.net.
