Ostwind 1 is the project that realises the connection of the Baltic Sea wind farms in the Cluster Westlich Adlergrund. The Westlich Adlergrund area has proven to be particularly suited for the construction of wind turbines. It has a surface of 109.2 square kilometres and is situated in the Exclusive Economic Zone. It is located at about 42 kilometres from the closest coast of Rügen island, and some 90 kilometres from Lubmin in the Bay of Greifswald. For two wind farms - Arkona and Wikinger - the permits have already been granted. For other wind farms in the Cluster Westlich Adlergrund, the approval procedures are still ongoing. The three permits for the cable route have been granted. The competent authority in these matters, namely the Ministry for Energy of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, granted 50Hertz its approval for the land route on 9 March 2015 and for the sea route in territorial waters on 10 July 2015.
50Hertz received the planning approval decision as per the Offshore Installations Ordinance for the sea route within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) from the competent Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency on 13 August 2015. The offshore wind farms Wikinger and Arkona in the Cluster Westlich Adlergrund have successfully been connected to the grid, and on time to boot!
